Remembering Love, Personified

Last year, on this day, I wrote “Until…” & now, a year later, the piece that it alluded to… as I remember & honor a truly great man.

Transparent
Stoic
Compassionate
Joyful
Soul Man
Intentional
Loving
Husband
Father
Brother
Son
Angel
Pastor

Well done, Pastor Frank

Anyone who had the pleasure
Of spending air, time & space w/Pastor Frank can tell you.
Radical Love — yeah — it looks like that

God’s love corrects what the enemy steals
Pastor Frank’s love nudged you to truth

God’s love petitions on behalf of His beloved
Pastor Frank’s love petitioned the Father on our behalf

God’s love exists without reciprocation
Pastor Frank’s love operated the same way

Living God’s love can look foolish to those who don’t understand it
Pastor Frank’s compassion had visible evidence that others could see:

—Late night conversations
—Cooked meals
—Paid bills… & bails
—Gas money
—Time together in the studio
—Love offerings

—The Wilson Hotel

No forgery of love will fool for long
Real love cannot be pretended
Pastor Frank knew that
Pastor Frank taught that

To honor him, stop faking it
To remember him, don’t be fraudulent

In 2013, we love the grand stage
Whether on a Twitter soap box or Reality TV,
We grovel in 140 characters
We put stock in bold announcements:

—Royal babies
—Starring roles
—Captivating tell-all’s
—Theological showdowns

It’s not enough to be good — especially if no one’s watching

WELL DONE

Pastor Frank exemplified a different model
He showed us the New Way – before we knew what that was

WELL DONE

A true disciple doesn’t have to be announced
He is pronounced — by the way he loves
Pastor Frank loved
His beloved knows best
Who was Pastor Frank to her?
Love, Personified

WELL DONE, MY GOOD & FAITHFUL SERVANT

As he was PREPARING TO MEET THE KING
We wondered
We fasted
We feared
We prayed

The result?

Pastor Frank took us to the King
Week by week, he showed us intimacy
But in preparation, we went in ourselves.  We had to.
Because He — was really preparing us
After all, radical love means trusting
God CAN — even if He doesn’t

Pastor Frank once told me,
“Living God’s way is likened to a journey; that cannot be started w/o faith & whose final destination is love.”

Fitting; as I watched his final journey
His incredible display of faith
His lifestyle demonstrated by love

His love of Food:
Fried Catfish
Greens & Dressing
Bread Pudding

His love of Family:
His wife
Children
Grandkids

His love of Music & Motown
His love for New Dawn Christian Village

Most of all — even more than his love of his heart, Sister B
His love of His Lord
His First Love, Yes

And the sweetest thing to remember
As we miss our pastor… friend… spouse… dad
He was told by His first love
WELL DONE
WELL DONE, MY GOOD & FAITHFUL SERVANT
